It was reported sometime last month that Phil Baroni had resigned with the UFC. Baroni hasn't fought in the UFC since 2005. Baroni was on a three fight winning streak before taking on Joe Riggs this July. Riggs won a unanimous decision over Baroni who now has a record of 13-11. Baroni's biggest win was probably his knockout win over Dave Menne at UFC 39 back in 2002.
It was reported earlier by Sherdog that Sean Sherk would be forced out of his UFC 104 bout with Gleison Tibau due to a shoulder injury suffered in training. Gleison now has a new opponent in Josh "The Dentist" Neer. Both fighters are coming off very frustrating losses with Neer losing to Kurt Pellegrino in a fight in which Neer was taken to the ground repeatedly and controlled for three rounds to lose a decision. Tibau, on the other hand, is coming off a very controversial to Melvin Guillard who Neer submitted in early 2006.
Brett Rogers will take on Fedor Emelianenko sometime in Fall at a Strikeforce event. This is honestly a very bad business mistake for Strikeforce. It is almost as bad as Fedor signing with Strikeforce in the first place. Fans eagerly awaited for Fedor to sign with the premier mixed martial arts organization in the world where he would face the best competition currently available in mixed martial arts.

Mark "The Smashing Machine" Kerr was defeated by Muhammed Lawal better known as 'King Mo' at M-1 Breakthrough. Kerr took the fight on short notice after Don Frye was forced to full out of the fight. Kerr is now on a five fight losing streak and most are urging him to hang up the gloves. It appeared as though Kerr may have injured himself when he went for a single leg take down. 'King Mo' is now on a five fight winning streak and he said that he expects to be fighting in either the UFC or Strikeforce sometime in 2010.
Kenny Florian is expected to make his return since his loss to BJ Penn at UFC 101 against Clay Guida at UFC 106. Guida will also be coming into the fight after losing his last fight. Guida lost a unanimous decision to Diego Sanchez who will be fighting BJ Penn at UFC 106.
All fighters competing at UFC 102 have made weight. Antonio Rodrigo and Randy Couture meet in the night's main event with both fighters coming off losses. Nogueira was defeated by Frank Mir for the interim UFC heavyweight title while Randy Couture lost his UFC heavyweight title to Brock Lesnar. Both fighters will look to get back into title contention with a win.
In the night's co-main event, both fights are also coming off losses. Thiago Silva was knocked out by Lyoto Machida. Keith Jardine lost a very close decision to Rampage Jackson.
Fedor Emelianenko (30-1), who many consider the top pound for pound fighter in the world, will make his Strikeforce debut in Fall against undefeated Brett Rogers whose most notable win came by technical knockout over Andrei Arlovski back in June. Rogers also holds a win over James Thompson which is really anything but spectacular. Brett Rogers is currently 10-0 with all of his wins coming by way of stoppage. Not date has been set but Fedor is expected to make his debut sometime in November.
We recently reported that Dan Lauzon was forced out of his UFC 103 fight with Rafaello Oliveira. Nik Lentz (16-3-1) will step in for Dan Lauzon to face Rafaello Oliveira (8-1) who is riding a three fight winning streak. Rafaello Oliveira's only loss came by TKO stoppage to Lyle Beerbohm at an EliteXC Challengers Event. Lentz is currently fighting a six fight winning streak including a decision win over UFC veteran Drew Fickett. Lentz has a decision loss on his record to Tapout cast member Sherron Leggett back in 2006.
